History:
The Nekoname are a race of nomadic cat-like human beings. They used to live anywhere and everywhere they could. Until recently, however, you could find them just about anywhere in Relia. Their numbers started to dwindle due to a mysterious illness that seemed to target the animals of the world. The Nekoname were thought to be loosely related to the Nachtyre. This connection, as well as their already known connection to the feline race, is what seemed to lead to their downfall. A period of five years or so passed and, in that time, the Nekoname seemed to thrive in one location, Teliath.
The Nekoname seemed to split upon reaching the forest kingdom. It is thought that half of their race went on to thrive in the kingdom itself while the other half stayed close to its nomadic roots and lived in the surrounding forest. The nomads, similar to gypsies, lived in a traveling community which was mainly comprised of wagons and tents. The nomadic Nekoname, now settled in the forest, live in peace. Life is harder for them as opposed to the half in the kingdom however, and as such trouble seems to find its way to them.
Ami Taiomi, in particular, is who the trouble seems to flock to. A simple girl at heart, Ami had always seemed to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, especially when she was younger. At the age of seven, she began to develop an interest in the art of trap making. As time went on, Ami’s traps began to become more elaborate. What had started out as a simple “bell trap” at the age of seven, was now an elaborate system of traps, all woven together to stop someone, or something, from getting close to their house. This was when she was ten. Her parents, although encouraging her to keep working in hopes that she would become an inventor, found out the hard way what Ami truly was.
It was a normal day, or so it had seemed at first, and Ami’s mother and father were busy working outside on their day off. Life was hard for the Taiomi family, it always had been, and so Ami decided to help out, or so she thought. She headed into the area of the camp that contained all the shops and began to look around. The meat stand happened to catch her eye and she slipped over towards it. She began to glance around, and seeing no one was around, slipped a small pack of fish into her pocket and began to head back toward her home. Unbeknownst to her, however, the meat stand owner was standing at the window of his shack nearby and had followed her back home.
Upon entering her house, Ami slipped off into her room to dispose of the fish until she could slip it into the kitchen without any problems. A few seconds after she had stashed the stolen fish, she heard a knock followed by muffled voices. Curious, she went to see who was there. To her surprise it was the owner of the meat stand. As the man spoke to her parents, she watched from her doorway. Needless to say, her parents were mad at her and her theft. Reluctantly, she decided to tell the truth and returned the fish, with the promise she wouldn’t do it again. However, she did do it again, just not to the same place.
As time went by and she grew older, Ami began to secretly practice the ways of the pickpocket. She would lock all the doors in the house and open them as fast as she could with a small hairpin, or even steal things from her parents’ room just to see how long it took for them to notice. If they did notice, she would feign ignorance and slip the item In question back in a place where it could have been easily overlooked and they would be none the wiser. Once she was confident in her abilities, she began to swipe little things here and there from people around the camp. A small amount of money here, a little food there, it had seemed as if she was getting away with everything. Until one faithful day.
It was late one night, and as luck would have it, it was stormy. Unseen to Ami or her family, a small group of people began to approach their home, their presence being revealed by the occasional lightning flash. The group of camp dwellers stopped at the Taiomi family’s door and knocked. Ami, who was usually a light sleeper, merely rolled over as the rapping echoed throughout the silent little house. Her parents answered the door, sand still fresh in their eyes, and quickly jumped back at the sight of the mini mob at their door. A few minutes passed before the group left. They had come to inform them of their stolen goods and their suspicions that it was Ami.
The next day, Ami awoke to find her parents gone. There was a note on her door that read: “Ami, we’re going out for a while, we’ve left you some money for food, be back soon.” Naturally, she didn’t think much of it, as her parents sometimes left her alone like this before. This time was different though, she could feel it. She searched for the money but there was none to be found. She then continued to search her room for her little “rainy day” stash, but to her surprise, it too was gone. She was at a loss for words, thankfully they found her instead as she spied a note on the floor where her stash was supposed to be.
The note read: “We know what you did, we’ve known all along. If you want your parents to stay safe, you’ll follow these rules. We’ve already taken our things back from you, little thief, and now we want our interest. Rule one, Leave the camp. Rule two, WORK for the money. Rule three, Send your payments back here, you’ll know how when you get that far. Rule four, Last one so pay attention. If you tell anyone about this, and they come here to help you out, your parents will die. Now get out of here and don’t forget, your parents’ lives are in your hands now, so you’d better keep them clean!”
Ami’s life almost crumbled when she finished that note. All she knew, all he had, had been taken from her. For what seemed like hours, she cried. She cried until her body ran out of tears to shed. She had read the note three times over that day, trying to find some hidden clue. Feeling a mixture of emotions, frustration and loneliness among them, she gathered her things and set out the next day. She carried with her two things of value. The note from her parents’ kidnappers and NekoHime, a glove she designed as a substitute for a thief’s claw weapon, trading the traditional knuckle claws for catlike, retractable fingertip claws. As she ventured forth into the world, she couldn’t help but feel a nagging itch at the back of her mind, like she was missing something. If only she had turned around at that moment, she would have seen what she was missing. There stood her parents, watching her go with tears in their eyes. It was they, who had written the note.
And so Ami’s chapter begins. This is “The Relia Chronicles!”

History:
Teliath, the forest kingdom of south-western Relia, is the home of the Kigai royal family. The king and queen, after 5 long years of toil, founded the kingdom of Teliath from the barren, desert wastes of the south-west. Years later, after the kingdom began to prosper, conspiracies began to form over just how exactly it all came to be. One idea was that the kingdom was a miracle from the creator as a sign that there was in fact a creator. Others began to think that the king and queen were actually formed from nature themselves and were able to create things of beauty from even the harshest, most barren of lands. Unbeknownst to the conspirators, this thought was, for the most part, true.
The king and queen are descendents of an ancient race, the Nachtyre. These beings originated with humanlike form but after bearing witness to the appearance of nature, they decided to attempt to change their appearance to better fit what they deemed beautiful. Their attempts are what gave birth to what is known presently as “Druidism” or nature based magics and “Druids” the mages of nature. Although the descendents know the truth, the rest of the world remains skeptical of these claims, as most of Nachtyrian lore has been lost due to the ravages of time. The last bit of Nachtyrian lore remains under the protection of the Kigai family and, as such, is locked away. The Nachtyre, after many years, had finally made themselves one with nature. Their bodies were covered in fur, their ears changed to mimic an animal’s, and they grew tails. The only things they did not change were the way they walk, upright on two legs like a human, and their faces, instead of an animal-like muzzle their mouths and noses remained humanlike.
As the Kigai kingdom grew and the years passed, the queen gave birth to a son. They named him Cobalt. The young prince began to study the ways of his lineage around the age of six. He began to study Nachtyrian magic and, a year later, found he possessed a unique gift. He had been playing out in the forest when he stumbled upon a unique little creature, unlike he had ever seen before. It appeared to be some mixture between a cat and a rabbit, and it was injured gravely. The young prince scooped the Catbit, as he called it, into his arms and hastily returned to the castle to fetch help. Upon his arrival, his magic instructor told him there was nothing that could be done for the little creature, it’s wounds were too severe. Cobalt began to sob, for he could feel the little catbit’s pain, and began to inspect it’s wounds. A few moments later, his crying ceased as his hands began to glow with a dim white light. Both he and his teacher looked on, awestruck, as the light wove it’s way around the little creature’s injuries, making them better before their eyes. His teacher was speechless as the Catbit opened its eyes and let out a small cry, much like that of a kitten. Cobalt’s studies seemed to double, even triple after that day.

As time went on, Cobalt turned fifteen.  His father had told him he was now a man and would start battle training the next day. That day came and went and so did many more before Cobalt found the second part of his gift. He was out with a small scouting party at the time, doing some recon training when something unforeseen happened. A group of bandits, having gotten word of their approach, had set up a trap to take the prince hostage and kill the others. The bandits attacked as they had planned and had killed three of the five scouting group members. All that were left were Cobalt and his group’s teacher. Cobalt, who was busy trying to heal a dying group member at the time, was shoved out of the way as one of the bandits lunged, slicing the teacher in the stomach instead of the student as intended. As his teacher fell Cobalt drew his sword, Wycazi. Rage burned in the young prince’s eyes as he set himself up for a quick-draw lunge. His teacher, somehow still alive, watched in disbelief as Wycazi’s blade turned black and the prince lunged forward. He cut through the two bandits he had aimed for and watched as the darkness from his blade tore the other two bandits asunder. That was when Cobalt learned that he not only possessed the power of Light, but also that of Darkness.
From that day forward everyone in the kingdom both respected him and feared him. He helped everyone and anyone he could in the kingdom, from healing the sick, to doing odd-jobs. This is where the respect came from. The fear, however, stemmed another source. Cobalt had just turned 18 when his mother grew ill. He had gotten back from a lesson when one of the castle servants, or castle keepers as Cobalt and his family called them, relayed to him that his parents wanted to see him. Curious, he obeyed, thinking nothing of it at the time. Upon his arrival, he found his mother bedridden and his father pale and saddened. It was then he learned that his mother had fallen extremely ill and was on the verge of death. Cobalt, not knowing what else to do, summoned all the strength he could and went to work with his healing magic. For days on end he worked, trying everything he possibly could think of before he collapsed. His father, after taking Cobalt back to his room, returned to find the queen looking not as pale as she had before, or so he swore was the case.
Cobalt, hearing of his mother’s slow recovery two days later, felt relieved. He kept a careful eye on his mother’s condition and returned to his studies. A few days later, a couple boys, about his age, stopped him on the street and asked for his help. Naturally Cobalt agreed, only to find himself in an alleyway on the poorer side of the kingdom. He was about to ask a question when one of the three boys lashed out, striking him across his face. The other two boys followed soon after as Cobalt took up a defensive stance, catching blows to his body from every angle. As the gang of boys beat him they began to talk bad about him. Cobalt stayed silent, making the trio angrier. They then began to talk down about the royal family, his mother in particular. This is what set Cobalt off. He grabbed one of the boys as he lashed out to give him a hit to the stomach and twisted his arm back, letting go after a loud snap and a cry from the owner. One down, he thrust his palm toward the boy to his left, knocking him down with an unseen blow. The first boy to go down had gotten back up again, his arm hanging limp at his side. He had drawn a dagger from his pocket and charged, aiming at the prince’s neck. Cobalt sidestepped the rush and knocked his assailant away with a strike with his elbow. The boy with the dagger was sent stumbling into the other boy Cobalt had knocked down seconds before. The third boy, who had stayed back watching the others fight, had an angry scowl on his face.
The two attacking boys were now back on their feet and about to charge again. Cobalt turned toward them and shook his head, outstretching his palm once more in the process. Black tendrils shot from his hand then, binding the two would-be assailants by the hands and feet. The prince then clenched his outstretched hand into a fist and a series of pops and cracks echoed throughout the alley, followed by cries of pain no more than a second later. The prince looked at the third boy once more and his scowl had melted away into a look of sheer horror. Cobalt began to walk out of the alley toward the horrified boy, who was now frozen in place, and stopped slightly behind him; “Let this be a lesson to you… Never talk about my family the way you have today…”
After his encounter with trio in the alley, Cobalt found out that his mother was indeed recovering. It was then that Cobalt decided to leave the kingdom. He informed his father, who only asked why. Cobalt told him that he was concerned about his mother’s health, fearing her illness could return. He said he wanted to search for a perfect cure. On top of that he felt like he had something more to do than stay in the kingdom the way he has all his life. His father merely nodded. He told Cobalt that there was a time when he had felt the same when he was his age. He also mentioned that the kingdom was his destined chore, as he called it. He wished his son luck with his travels and asked him to write when he could. Shortly after that, Cobalt had gathered his things and finished a few final chores to help the people of Teliath one final time. Among the necessities, he took Saria, the Catbit he had healed when he was a child, and his sword Wycazi with him. Friend and sword both at his side, the young prince, Cobalt, set out on his travels.
This is Cobalt’s introduction to “The Relia Chronicles!”
