That story I was working on...

...for all of about twenty minutes.

Crazy Bus

The day started like any other. I woke up late, nuked some food in the microwave and ate whilst watching videos on the local Youtubes. What I didn’t know was what was waiting for me on that very site. My phone goes off, a message. I don’t recognize the number but see what the text says regardless. “Type in Crazy Bus, you’ll be oh so glad you did!”

Type… In..? I looked around for a friend of mine, in case of a joke pulled by someone at my window. A few minutes pass and the phone goes off again. Different number this time but the message was an obvious continuation from the one before it. “What are you waiting for, Coby? Don’t you want ultimate joy? Search it!” Okay, now I know this had to have been a friend of mine pulling a prank. Regardless, I went along with it and did as instructed. (Youtube Search: Crazy Bus) I clicked enter and found a few videos of what seemed to be some fake Sega Genesis game. I laughed as I clicked a link. Surely this was going to be funny. What awaited was a most horrifying noise, blasting from the speakers. This abomination sounded like a jeopardy board being shuffled in an endless loop and the volume of it almost instantly gave me a splitting headache. I felt as if my head was going to explode. I tried to turn down the speakers but ended up knocking them over due to the constant attack on my ear drums.

I fumbled to pick them up and put them back into place, turning them down in the process. Alright, I thought, now that that is out of the way… What’s this game like? Based on the soundtrack I would s- And then I was cut off. What awaited my eyes was a sight most foul. A DOS-esque loading screen followed by the most hideous looking bus graphic I think I’ve ever laid eyes on. The thing looked like a shrinky-dink skidding across the screen. A shrinky-dink from hell. It made this little humming noise that made my stomach churn queasily as it’s wheels, and I use that term as lightly as I can, rolled in place as it moved. And then it happened. A noise that sounded like a dog whistle would to a dog, the horn went off. I knew I wanted to turn the video off, I knew that was the right thing to do. But for some unfathomable reason I felt even more strongly compelled to keep watching. Minutes passed. It felt like hours dragging on. The same thing appeared with every new bus. That humming and that hideous horn blaring. It was almost enough to make your eyes and ears bleed.

Somehow I endured the video and was as glad as could be to have it over and turned off. I expected another text from that mystery prankster but nothing arrived. Nonetheless I shrugged my encounter with the thing off moved onto other, more entertaining and light hearted videos. The hours pressed on and I noticed that it was growing rather late. I began my ritual of powering everything down and getting changed into my pajamas for bed. It was a cold night, the temperature running about mid to low twenties. Why am I telling you this? No reason besides the fact that I was happy to have fleece clothing on at that time. Regardless of fleece or cold I curled up into bed and started to drift off into slumber. Just as I was about to enter that blissful REM sleep, however, something went awry. I began to hear things just outside my window. Something oddly familiar, familiar and unsettling. Like a jeopardy board on an endless… Loop. I sprang from the bed as quickly as I could and peered out the icy window. There upon the street was a bus. A horrible looking bus. One that made my blood run cold.

I began to shake. This couldn’t be happening. There was no way in heaven nor hell that these events could be transpiring at this very moment in time. I tried to reason with myself, convince myself that I was still asleep and that this was a horrible dream. But there was no way around it. That was for all intents and purposes a crazy bus sitting outside my house. I knew it was a foolish idea but I was obviously incoherent at the moment. I grabbed the bat from my closet and made my way slowly to the front door. Every step I took I heard something soft grow louder, like an echo on the wind. The jeopardy noises grew and grew I could tell that was it, but something felt… Off. The decibels grew deeper and deeper until it sounded like something straight out of a horror film. I knew it was the same sound but now it sounded like something from the Giygas battle in Earthbound. Something else that was quite unsettling to me, but that’s another story. I slowly opened the door and stepped outside, peering at the bus, my pupils must have been the size of dinner plates. Though I’m not sure if it was due to terror, the darkness of the night, or a mixture of both. I knew deep in my soul I should step back inside the house, try to go back to my room and sleep. Cover my head and pray to God that this would all stop and go away. But it was too late. I was suddenly at the bus’s door. Then it opened. The door opened and that horn went off like a shotgun burst in the night. My head buzzed like a swarm of bees just invaded my brain. And then silence. Silence and darkness. The bus had claimed another victim.

Random thoughts of the day.

Since I haven't posted in a while here are some random things I've thought of today.

On "What makes people special?"

Contrary to what most people think, everyone is special because they are the only them that
will ever exist. Just as I am the only Coby to exist you are the only Stark. People may say that there are more than one person with the same name, but you're marked as special by two things. Your dna/genetics and, more importantly, your actions. As people can do the same thing, no one will ever do it just as you have. That is what makes me special.

On "How to survive Christmas."

I shall share some insight with you Tj. Straight from my father's book. "When the holidays come along you shouldn't hate them, you should love them. Why? Because you can spread holiday cheer by spreading your laughter caused by all of the stupid people and their antics. And if they piss you off just smile and tell them to have a "Merry fucking Christmas" and walk away with style." (If this isn't in his book it is now.)

Random update. I am also working on a silly "scary" story. Amongst the web community these types of  stories are called "Creepypasta." Usually about some big thing in today's culture. The ones I am most familiar with usually have to do with games and anime/cartoons. I am purposely writing it to be horrible so I can send it in to someone who reads/reviews them. That will be up soon, I hope.

Not sure what's going on with the format of this post... I guess it just doesn't like my facebook copy/pasting. Ah well, it'll be fixed next post.

Fixed it.

God Bless,

~Alex

True friendship.

Just now I read someone's story of how they lost their best friend on facebook and I felt the need to share some feelings by sharing the picture on my page with a sentiment of my own attached. Now I wish to elaborate on my sentiment, so I shall.

The person's story, to sum it up because I refuse to post the actual thing anywhere, is this. "You know that feeling when you've lost a friend? A true friend? It sucks. Knowing them for X years, growing closer to them. Even sharing things because you feel like a sibling to them... Then they leave you all because of a few bad choices. You date the wrong people, act like an ass, and then you turn around when you come around again and they're gone. It sucks and I hate it."

Here is my sentiment.

This entire thing is a falsehood. There is no such thing with a true friend. A true best friend will never forget you. They will always be there whenever you need them, thick or thin they have your back. Not to sound like an asshole since this is going on something like THIS, but I'm damn glad and proud I have people like that in my life.

God bless you.

To elaborate a little further, some background. I talk all the time with my friends and family. About a lot of stuff. A lot of the time things come up that have come up before and points are solidified time after time. My mother has made this point in the past and I know it is true to this very day. "If you needed your friends, the ones you know are true and the ones you talk to/hang out with the most you know they would be there for you." To which I would always respond "And I them." Now in my personal life I've proved this plenty before and so have they. A friend calls me up stopped in the middle of the road with a flat. What do I do? I hurry my ass out there as quick as I can and help him change the tire and make sure he doesn't get killed. Another instance, I had somewhere to go and my mom had my car because hers was in the shop. I pulled a game show and phoned a friend. They gladly gave me a ride and to pay them back I bought lunch. Which brings me to yet another case, and this more so than anything else. Money. Or to be specific, food money. If I have money and a friend doesn't, I'll spot them if I can. Same goes for them. Or if you're just that tiny little bit short, someone will have someone else's back. Now I'm horribly traditional, which makes me an oddity in this day and age I'm sure, but isn't that how things are supposed to work? When you forge a friendship you forge a bond with a person, you sign on contract in a way. The way I see it is that when you know someone and they need something you help out. One of the main saying I grew up with was "family and friends first." Because if you aren't there for a family member or a friend when they need you they just may not be there for long. I know that's a worst case scenario, but you know what I mean. At the very least it's just being decent, right? Common courtesy? I know this is a bit far fetched but shouldn't it be like The Lord of the Rings? A fellowship? An unbreakable bond?

As I've stated before, I know I have people like that in my life and I'm damn happy and proud to know that I do. That I have what everyone should but sadly does not. A person is not blessed by what he has materially, but by the ties he has with others. You can buy and sell personal possessions, you can replace something if it gets lost or stolen, broken or damaged... But you cannot replace the life of another or the memories and feelings of those that you're closest to. Cherish those moments and those people. Another saying I've grown up with and hold dear to my heart is this, and then I'm done. "Never leave someone on a sour note. Always make amends as soon as you can. Because if you don't you may never get to do so in the future. And that feeling is infinitely worse than if you had never known them at all.

God bless you all and thanks for reading,

Opinions. (Or "Why do we have reviews at all?")

Hot topic for today class. "Why do we even bother having reviews?" The way I see it, they don't really do any good for anyone. Case and point, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and any other movie made. I watched this last night and I loved it. Easy 8/10 for me, I'd watch it again. I click on IMDB (Internet movie database) to go look up some background stuff on the movie and what do I see? 6/10. Granted that's out of thousands and thousands of reviews and ratings, but still. I just gave this movie an 8 so to me it's a faulty rating. Anyone would think that, right? I can say the same about movies I've hated, games, book... Anything.

I remember I had a guy come into Gamestop when I was working once and asked me to tell him some good games. Alright, I said, what types of games do you like? Oh just anything that looks pretty.... Alright... By what standard? What is your definition of "looks pretty?" I showed him things like Okami, a beautiful game modeled after Japanese watercolor artwork and calligraphy. I loved it when I played it, it's a very fun action adventure fantasy game. He just does this number. He picks the case up, looks at the back for two seconds and puts it down with the statement "I hate it." He didn't even let me tell him about the game. Didn't know what it was, just instantly hated it. I could have given him any and all the information he needed. Nope.

So the guy walks over to the infamous Sonic '06 and picks it up and a smile spreads across his face. "Now THIS. THIS looks great!" I told him it looks beautiful, sure, but it plays like a sack of sand being used as a hammer. It just doesn't work. At all. The graphics are the only thing that game had going for it. What's he do? He ignores me and buys it. What happens? He brings it back hours later on the same day and returns it to get something else. If he had listened to me and my review of anything, as it wasn't just with Okami, he might have been spared some money and an extra trip up here. But no. So why do we have reviews at all? It all boils down to personal opinion, right? And if you see a majorly hyped up game and then play it and hate it you feel pissed off and cheated, don't you? (I do.)

I have tons of review ideas and even some written up but I don't care to do anything with them because it wouldn't make a difference. Someone somewhere wont agree with me and they're going to complain about it, perhaps to the point of bad mouthing me and berating me for my "wrong opinion." then why bother in the first place? I know we have reviews just as a general consensus, a lumped together general feeling upon something. That's great, I understand that. I get it. But what good does it really do when 9/10 people, at least in my experience, don't listen to what anyone has to say. Or if they do listen they act like a stuck up spoiled little child and tell you you're wrong. And what's even worse, they don't even tell you why! They just say those little words and leave it at that. If you're going to tell someone they're wrong you should at least have the knowledge and backbone enough to explain why. Present a credible argument or discussable reason.

Maybe if people thought a little bit more about things the world would be a better, easy going place to live in. But the way it is now you can't even have an opinion, or share the one you have out of fear of being made fun of or talked down to. To close it off I shall share my opinion on one horrible thing I love and one loved thing I hate.

The Kinect. Everyone berates it for not doing what it should and not working the way it's supposed to. Mine works perfectly fine when I use it, and I got mine used! Nothing's ever going to be perfect, and it's still a new piece of technology. For how new it is and if you set it up correctly and use it as instructed, it works very very well. It may be hit and miss at times, but its general performance is well above what people say.

Thinking back on it I can't really think of anything I HATE that people love, so I'll use this instead....

Castlevania 1-whatever number the arcade style went up to. I like the game. Do I agree with people who say that the arcade styled ones are vastly superior to the rpg, metroid-esque ones? Hell no. They're fun and I like them but they're nowhere NEAR the top of the list of "best games" in my book. I could get into a discussion of this just by itself but I'll keep it short. If someone asks me to back my opinions up I shall do so then. "The jumping is shoddy, you can hardly get from point a to point b without playing it like a strategy game. If you die, you die. That's it. Hours of hard work gone, all for nothing. "Aww, but I was all the way to Dracula, now I have to start all over?" YEP SCREW YOU KID. Now I know some of the newer games fix these problems and that's why I still like them, but the originals are terrible. The one that started to fix everything was Super Castlevania IV. From then on I like the arcade style games. But 1-before IV are terrible and feel like they were all rushed games that went unfinished.
--------------------------
Opinions are just that. If you do not value my opinion and feel the need to act out like I have stated others have then be kind to everyone and refrain from posting something you'll regret later. Thumper rule.

If you would like me to explain something further or have a civil talk about anything you see here, let me know. I will be more than happy to defend or elaborate my standings on anything.

Thank you and have a blessed day,

Originality. (Before times)

I was going to post this as a comment on youtube but now it's way too long and I can't /don't want to cut anything out of it. Arin "Egoraptor" Hansen said he hates Turtles in Time, and a lot of other games because they're "all the same." Well, here's my response...

I love Turtles in Time but if anyone dislikes anything on the grounds that it's unoriginal... I ask you to look at everything in the world today and really think "Is it original?" I for one play games for fun, nothing else. I play RPG games and love them, yet I always know what happens because the stories are all the same now. Same with shooters, it's just Call of Duty with a new skin slapped on and some new/extra game modes... Mario follows the same old format, Bowser kidnaps Peach, you save her by traipsing through a bunch of generic levels, blah blah blah.. But I still love it. Every game/movie/book today is a reskin/rehash of another game/movie/book that came before it. Nothing's original anymore. Deal with it and move on. The well of creativity ran dry long ago... If you don't like it you should try to make something yourself and stop complaining about shit like this. Like children.

Since this is going on facebook where you all know me and how I am in real life you know that I love artsy stuff. I write, I draw, ect. I have ideas for stories and books and this-es and thats... But I know my stuff isn't original and I don't claim it to be. The story idea I have had for years and years is basically Chrono Trigger, Lord of the Rings, and Eragon mashed together. Some would say it's original but if you pull it apart the only real originality to it would be the character/location names. If even that. I've done what everyone else does. I pull from a large sum of similar works and tweak things to fit my need. There's an evil king in a lot of fantasy, I like the idea so there's that. The king's the main guy's father? They have family issues? There's that too. (Star Wars comes to mind before all else.) Ect.. Ect.. Blah blah blah. If you pull anything apart and dissect it enough you'll notice that everything is the same in this way. Everything in life pulls from something else in life that has come before it. It will always be that way.

With this mindset any argument dealing with any form of originality can be ended just as quickly as it may have arrived. I just wish the idiots that I read arguing about this shit could see this. It would shut them up, I'm sure. (And for the record I'm specifically referring to a few youtube users who were arguing back and forth. I would also hate to offend anyone, but the truth is the truth. Ce la vie.)

------------------------------------------

Since this is a blog post now comments are welcome. However it should go without saying that any petty hatred and internet fighting will not be tolerated and is completely uncalled for. I don't care what goes on outside but in this little realm of mine I would like to think we shall all behave like civil adults. To quote Thumper: "Mom always says that if you don't have anything nice to say about someone you shouldn't say anything at all."

Thank you for your time and enjoy,
                                                      ~Coby

Obligatory generic welcome post.

Welcome to my blog. It is new. Ect... Ect... I'm sure you know how these things go by now. I type up a post welcoming you to my blog, invite you to stay and enjoy the content I provide... Well you know what? Here you go.

In all seriousness, welcome one and all to my blog, "A Chip Off the Wall." Here's to what I hope will be a fun time for any and everyone that should happen to be reading this or any other post. Just to give everyone a slight heads up this blog will primarily be text based with a possible vlog (video blog) thrown in on occasion. I will talk about anything and everything that happens to be on my mind at the time and have a thing or two saved from the before times that I shall post here as well.

Now that all of THAT is out of the way, welcome once more and have a wonderful time!

Well... What I wanted to do was have poppers go off and confetti rain down but since this isn't my actual abode I suppose this will have to do. Have a gif.
